KCS has completed multiple new and upgrade installations of Microsoft Small Business Server 2003 (SBS2003). The SBS product provides a fully integrated server solution, perfect for smaller firms with less that 75 client workstations. The latest version of SBS continues the tradition of offering a software bundle which includes the latest Microsoft enterprise software at a very low price. Highlights of the new SBS2003 product are:

  • Includes Windows Server Operating System 2003 for Network file and printer sharing.
  • Includes Internet information server (IIS) for internet and intranet web hosting.
  • Sharepoint portal server is a new SBS feature for building a company intranet page for workgroup collaboration.
  • Exchange server 2003 provides advanced email, shared calendars, public folders, shared address books, and more. Outlook 2003 client software is included for local clients and includes many enhancements and a new user interface. Users can also access email from home via an enhanced web based remote email access.
  • The new remote workplace provides for remote administration and access to all server and client desktop systems.
  • Extensive server monitoring and administration tools are included. Enhanced backup tools are also offered.
  • For users familiar with the 2000 version -- SBS 2003 spits into two versions now-- the standard edition (includes all the features above). and the premium edition which includes MS-SQL database and Intranet Security and Acceleration service (ISA). SBS2000 users can upgrade to the full version at reduced cost.
  • In addition to traditional client access licenses (CALs), there is a new option for device licensing, useful if many different users access the same devices. SBS2003 also supports two physical or four virtual processors (down from four physical processors in the 2000 version) but the maximum number of client/devices is increased from 50 to 75 computers.
