Types of Websites (Purpose)

  • Information/presense only, name, contact information and basic information about the firm and any product or services, mission etc. Even if you are not trying to sell products or services directly on the internet, a presense site is a simple way to establish your business as authentic and communicate to customers and the public at large what the organization is and does. These sites are usually imexpensve, under $1000 and sometimes much less (1-10 pages)
  • E-commerce sites - sell products or services directly. These are susually a little more involved and cost depend on the number of items to be sold, although shopping cart solutions and pre-designed stores are sometimes very fuinctional options.
  • Content Management Sites. We develop using a number of tools but prefer some of the more common open source systems such as Joomla
  • The hsoting packages for most sites are available for roughly $20 a month. It varys slightly for ecommerce and more complex hosting needs, but the key issue is either hosting on your own server or selecting a relable hosting service.

Guidelines For Efficient Site Development

  • Identify your site styles and/or color preferences thru examples of sites you like or template selection,Be as specific as possible as to why certain colors are desiged, such as matching logos or providing a certain look and feel.
  • Provide source materials in electronic format if possible
  • Keep content clean, ordered in list and similar typefaces.
  • Avoid excessive use of graphics and colors. Limit to those which accent the design
  • Be very selective using any audio tracks or flash animation execpt for selected sites. Interactive components can be added with Javascript and rotating images, but avoid excessive interaction which can turn off visitors if used excessively.

Moving Forward the Process is Simple

  1. We provide a brief consultation to establish site design goals based on your business model, and preferences for site style, navigation, etc. Review our portfolio or gallery of other site designs and/or provide
  2. Collecting Content: We start with existing brochures, web sites, etc. as a base, and identify new content to be created.
  3. Design & Estimate: We estimate a fixed price (either fixed per job -- or for custom designs typically 4-8 hours plus 2 hours per content page with variations). A deposit to along with a signed contract begins work. 
  4. We create a new home page and common site elements. We review this initial design with you and make any necessary adjustments.
  5. We complete site: Incorporating your revisions we complete the remaining pages and finish the site. There is a final review of the site
  6. Upon acceptance we setup a hosting service and transfer the site from our development server to your server or a hosting service. The balance is due upon delivery.
